CIGA1: Commerical Indirect Fired Gas Appliances

To provide operatives with the theoretic knowledge to safely install / commission / maintain / repair and re-commission commercial appliances fitted with both atmospheric and forced draught burners.

Pre-Requisite

Candidates must hold a certificate of competence in: Core Commercial Gas Safety (COCN:1) and Installation First Fix Commercial Pipework (ICPN:1) for pipework in excess of 35mm diameter.

Course Duration

1 day (½ day training and ½ day assessment).

Training Aids

Lecture notes, audio visual presentation and a range of domestic gas appliances and models.

Assessment

Written and practical test in line with ACS scheme requirements

Course Objective

On successful completion of this course learners will be able to demonstrate competence in relation to:

  • Gas Safety Legislation
  • Characteristics of combustion and the use of Flue Gas Analysis Equipment
  • Commercial Ventilation Requirements
  • Installation of pipework and fittings including flanges, screwed, compression, capillary, polyethylene to steel, bellows and expansion joints
  • Tightness testing low pressure and medium pressure installations
  • The operation and positioning of emergency isolation controls and valves
  • Installation of all commercial indirect/direct fired gas appliances
  • Servicing of indirect/direct fired gas appliances and radiant heaters
  • The operation and checking of appliance gas safety controls and devices and other operational safety components
  • Commercial chimney requirements
  • The re-establishment of commercial pipework and appliance installations
  • Strength testing new pipework
  • Tightness testing new pipework installations
  • Direct purging new pipework installations by direct purging methods
